Mr. Abeyewickreme is practitioner of Theravada Buddhist teaching from Sri Lanka and has been engaged with URI since 2010. He was a URI Global Youth Ambassador in 2011 and represents the Multi-Region as a Global Council Trustees for the period 2016-2020. Suchith serves as a consultant and trainer on interfaith and intercultural ethics education, peace building and inter-faith dialogue. He is an official trainer of the Learning to Live Together programme of Arigatou International and has worked in training educators in both the formal and non-formal education contexts internationally. In 2013, at the hight of tensions created by extremist groups between Buddhists and Muslim communities in Sri Lanka, he was part of a team that stood against the rhetoric through a campaign ' Rally for Unity - Hate has no place in Sri Lanka' acting as a co-spokes person.
Suchith was a US Dept of State's Community Solutions Programme fellow in Conflict Resolution in 2013. He is graduate of Initiatives of Change's (IofC) Caux Scholars Programme 2016. Suchith has also been involved in many initiatives on youth leadership, environment and climate change, peace education and volunteerism.
